The Architect Fraternity Of India And Ambuja Neotia Group Organised The 2nd Edition Charles Correa Annual Memorial Lecture
Tarita Bose, Kolkata, June 27 : The architect fraternity of India and Ambuja neotia group got together on a common platform to offer tribute to legendary architect Charles Correa by organizing the 2nd edition ” Charles Correa annual memorial lecture” at the surest neotia Centre of excellence for leadership, in the presence of eminent guests and delegates. Ambuja neotia group has been consistently organizing this annual lecture since last year to commemorate the death anniversary of the visionary architect.
This year the event was graced by Mr. Richard hassel and one of the founders of WOHA, a Singapore based architecture practice, established in 1994. Mr. Kamal Hadker chairman and managing director sterling engineering consultancy services addressed the media along with Mr. Harshvardhan Neotia, chairman Ambuja Neotia group as special invitee.
He is the founder of one of the first joint sector companies in India, “Bengal Ambuja Housing Development Limited” in partnership with the government of West Bengal. The idea behind this joint sector venture was to promote social housing development in urban India. Under his guidance, Ambuja Realty Group has developed many properties across India. Harshavardhana Neotia’s maiden project, “Udayan” was declared a ‘Model Housing Project’ by the union government. He is also the pioneer of modern Public–private partnership (PPP) housing system in Kolkata .
Mr. Rahul Mehrotra, Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, said, “Charles Correa’s legacy for India however, will be that he was the most important figure in the first generation of architects in independent India. His contribution of articulating a clear agenda for architects in India was critical. His ability to theorize the everyday in productive ways for designers and construct a clear idea of India will be his everlasting impact.
