Bolly Tolly News, Kolkata, Monday, March 26, 2018: Humanitarian, Social Entrepreneur and Managing Trustee of Rakshak Foundation Chaitali Das curated a talk show on ‘Women Inspiring Women from Adversity to Empowerment’ – a soul stirring session to inculcate progressive thought of inclusiveness through an international perspective with guest speaker Ivy Woolf Turk from the US. Chaitali curated the platform to share the hurdles and challenges across the diverse cultures of USA and India. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Shashi Panja, Hon’ble Minister of State, Women and Child Development and Social Welfare (Independent Charge).

Chaitali, who is already involved in active roles in uplifting underprivileged women and various humanitarian activities was nominated by the US Embassy in India for the prestigious Fortune/US State Department Global Women’s Mentoring, Partnership programme in the United States. One of her mentors Lauren C. Anderson, former FBI Officer in the Fortune/ US State Department connected her to Ivy Woolf Turk, a former prisoner and now a motivational speaker.

Talking about her social initiative, Chaitali said, “Contrary to popular belief, a woman can be a woman’s best friend. We need to build a community of strong and empowered women who can reach out and empower others by sharing their own examples. It is not enough to empathise with others but take action and do something to create a better society. Through my project Jute Story Beyond Bars I have experienced firsthand that being an inmate of a prison should not mean the end of the world for anyone. I will to continue to uplift the women in distress within my humble capacity.”

The other panellists include Lovely Adhikary, a former inmate in West Bengal who is rehabilitated by Chaitali with dignity, a new identity, a new direction is given the responsibility to supervise the work under the project Jute story Beyond Bars and Prerona Roy, a burn victim and now a life coach.

The panel was moderated by Indo-Brazilian singer, songwriter and columnist Carlyta Mohini (Maria).

Rakshak Foundation is a social and charitable organization which has helped to transform thousands lives in various meaningful ways imparting skill and placement to rural women and rural youth over the last 24 years. The Foundation is working closely with Directorate of Prison service imparting training, skill and lively hood development and with Kolkata police running Child development centre with the homeless, street children.
