Bolly Tolly News, Kolkata, August 7, 2018 – Tamarind- a name synonymous with innovative and experimental South Indian cuisine is all set to expand its culinary horizons by introducing for the first time a North Indian kebab festival.
The #hokkebab festival is a
journey to the mouth-watering tastes of North West Frontier cuisine and
includes flavours from Punjab, Sindh and Peshawar. The festival was inaugurated
by renowned actor-comedian and RJ Mir, acclaimed film director Kamaleshwar Mukherjee
and celebrated writer Padmanabha Dasgupta who expressed their childhood love
affair with kebabs!
Gastronomes can look forward to the festival from 10th to 19th August. The special spread of 17 delicious kebabs will be available
all day from lunch to dinner between 12noon to 11pm.
The exceptional menu at Tamarind has been curated to offer tandoori
delights and not just conventional tikkas made from meat but also delicacies
prepared with fish and sea food. Vegetarian customers can also enjoy
specialities made with paneer and vegetables with the aromas of Indian masalas.
The signature picks to indulge are the utterly robust Tandoori Stuffed Paneer Tikka , the minced Soya Keema kebab and the
juicy mushroom Nawabi Dhingra kebab. Non vegetarians should look no further
and pamper their taste-buds with Mutton Chapli kebab-a flat round
light mutton patty served with breads.
Tamarind has over the past decade and a half proved its commitment to
encouraging novel combinations and a great fusion between the East and the
North is the original recipe of the Ghondhoraj Murg Malai Tikka where
the creamy chicken tikka is infused with ghondhoraj
zest and flavour. Definitely worth trying are the spicy Tandoori Pomfret and the
slow cooked prawn dish Tandoori Jhinga marinated with mild
Indian spices that will leave
everyone in a state of bliss!
A meal for a
vegetarian couple will cost Rs 800 plus taxes and non-vegetarian will enjoy
their meal at Rs 1100 plus taxes.
Traditionally cooked on skewers, the
kebab has been declared as one of the healthiest global foods. The medium of
slow grilling, keeps the nutrients of the food intact along with a very low
consumption of oil in the cooking process-making it the ideal choice for all foodies!Believe
it or not but the humble kebab is over a 1000 year old!! Ibn Battuta, the famous Moroccan traveller mentions in his
travelogue that the kebab was an
integral part of the daily diet of Indian royalty as early as 1200 AD.
Speaking on
the occasion, Mr Gautam Purkayastha,
owner-partner, Tamarind, said “At Tamarind, we believe in change and novelty.
Having been a highly awarded restaurant for the cuisine of southern India we
are now ready to offer guests flavours of the north with our #hokkebab festival. We wish we continue
to receive the same love from Kolkata in this new transition.”
The festival
will also be attended by connoisseurs, food bloggers and celebrities across
different segments. The kebab quest for Kolkatans ends at Tamarind!
